 - Vince Fahey

For purposes of this review, folks should ignore the fact that Greg Oliver and Steve Johnson are really nice guys.  They should also ignore the fact that discussing wrestling with them is, in and of itself, a history lesson.   What can’t be ignored though is that together, these two gentlemen have done an incredible job in covering the “bad guys” of pro wrestling.

This is the third book, in an “unofficial” series under the heading of The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame.  Book 1, The Canadians, and Book 2, The Tag Teams, are both well done books.  The latest book, recently released from ECW Press is The Heels and its well worth your time.

The book is divided into sections, starting first with The Top Twenty Heels.  From there, the book is divided into descriptive categories such as the Madmen ( i.e. Luke Graham, Moondog Mayne, etc), the Connivers (i.e. Tully Blanchard, Eddie Gilbert, etc), the Egotists (i.e. Rick Rude, Billy Graham, etc), and other categories.  All in all, over 110 wrestling heels are covered over the course of this 400 page book.  Each wrestler entry contains a photo or two along with multiple paragraphs providing quick and easy reference information and history on the wrestler.

The book makes for an easy but thoroughly enjoyable read, and is highly recommended.
