Saturday Night's Main Event #6 Page 2

- Mean Gene and Hulk are in the arena hours before the doors opened, and we watch video from the last SNME, when Bundy and Muraco attacked the champ, then the Bundy-Hogan WrestleMania 2 cage match. Gene calls this a classic confrontation, and I'd like to see his definition.

- Gene is back in the locker room with Steamboat, and we watch Jake Roberts snake Damien on George Welles, when George vomits during WM2. Steamboats reaction is great. Then its Jake and Damien, as Jake talks to his snake.

- Jake The Snake Roberts vs. Ricky The Dragon Steamboat

Now this is what I'm talking about. A classic angle that led to a feud that took us through the summer of 1986. With Roberts in the ring, Steamboat gets on the apron and turns his back to wave to his fansBIG MISTAKE! Roberts nails him with a pair of clotheslines that send him to the floor, and then he DDT's him on the concrete floor. Steamboat might as well be dead. Heenan:  " I smell something. Is that pineapple juice? " Roberts unleashes Damien all over Steamboat, who is out cold. That is a great angle, that would culminate at The Big Event in Canada, and also on the next SNME in October. 2 for 4.

- Mean Gene backstage with the Bulldogs and Capt. Lou. The highlights from WrestleMania 2 when they won the titles, and Lou says they are ready. Vince informs us that Steamboat has a concussion as Volkoff sings the Russian anthem. Then backstage with Okerlund and the challengers, and Sheik is classic on the mike.

- Tag Team Championship (2 of 3 Falls)  British Bulldogs (with Capt. Lou Albano) vs. Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff (with Freddie Blassie)

Fall 1  Dynamite has a knee injury, so he isn't in much. Davey Boy Smith starts with Nikolai and gets an early small package for two. Volkoff catches him with a stun gun though, Sheik tags in, hits a gutwrench suplex, and locks in the camel clutch for the submission not even a minute in. Sheik/Volkoff 1, Bulldogs 0.

Fall 2  Volkoff and Smith start things off, and Sheik quickly tags in. Sheik with an abdominal stretch, but Smith hiplocks out, and comes up empty on an elbow. Volkoff back in, and hits forearms and kicks. Smith gets a sunset flip, but Sheik distracts the ref for ten or 15 seconds, so it only gets a two count. Sheik tags in and hits some offense, but Smith with an atomic drop for only two. Volkoff tags in and hits a weird running rollup move for two, you have to see it to believe it. Smith hits an elbow, but Volkoff stops him and tags Sheik. Blassie then holds Smith on the ropes for a Sheik shot, and Volkoff is back in with a body slam, but Smith gets his foot on the rope. Volkoff thinks he won, so Smith runs Volkoff into Sheik, and rolls him up for the three count. Sheik/Volkoff 1, Bulldogs 1.

Fall 3  Volkoff dominates Smith while Vince says they've learned of a Dynamite Kid injury, since he spent the entire second fall blabbing on about how he must be hurt. Sheik is back in, and hooks a Boston crab on him. Smith powers his way to the ropes, and Volkoff is tagged in. Volkoff with a backbreaker, then a weird pinfall attempt for one, followed by a bearhug. Smith fights out as Volkoff tags Sheik, and Smith catches him with a powerslam for two. Dynamite tags in. Heenan:  "What's this gimp gonna do? " Sheik and Volkoff dominate him, exchanging quick tags. Gutwrench suplex by Sheik, and he hooks the camel clutch on Dynamite. Volkoff and Smith both come in, the ref gets Volkoff out, and Smith sneaks in and small packages Sheik for the three and the win.

- Well I like the Iron Sheik, and it's the Bulldogs. 3 for 5.

- Vince and Brain wrap up the show

- Well there's nothing amazing on this card, and almost all of its is forgettable, except the Steamboat-Roberts. But that angle is amazing, the tag match is a good watch, and Jimmy Hart hitting the Haiti Kid gets a good laugh out of me. Even though it was barely, 3 for 5 on a SNME is about as good as you can hope for, especially in 1986. Recommended.
