Saturday Night's Main Event #5 Page 2

We're back in Phoenix, and T is with Mean Gene. T wants Piper, T wants Piper, T wants Piper. T told Gene that he was ready, and T wants Rowdy Roddy Piper. Then a WWF Replay of Piper whipping T. Now Mean Gene with Heenan and King Kong Bundy, and Heenan and Bundy want Hogan.

--STEVE GATORWOLF vs. KING KONG BUNDY w/BOBBY HEENAN-- Gatorwolf is your a-typical jobber, so if you even have to ask who will win, get out of here now. Bell rings, Bundy with a knee to the gut and forearms in the corner. Vicious chop by Bundy, then an elbow to the head, and he throws him to the other corner and hits the avalanche. Three count, but Bundy insists on a five count, so Hebner counts twice more. DUD, but it did its job.

Fink tries to announce Bundy as the winner, but he steals the microphone, he says he wants Hogan and he wants him NOW! But, he's not the #1 contender, "Magnificent" Don Muraco is, and he's with Mean Gene. Muraco is upset because Mr. Fuji has apparently gone down with the flu, and he thinks Hogan's got something to do with it. So since Fuji can't be with Muraco, Heenan will be in his corner.

Then we go back to the dressing room, for a pathetic shot of Fuji, apparently sick, with his hat on and suit on. Well, his head hurts, so he puts an ice pack on his hat. It's pathetic, but it is a little funny. Muraco in the ring, and Mean Gene is with the Hulkster, and all he has to say is that he's ready. Hogan thinks the Heenan-Fuji thing is fishy.

--WWF Championship Match HULK HOGAN vs. MAGNIFICENT MURACO w/BOBBY HEENAN-- Jesse complains about that music, which is "Real American" his new song, and the Hulkster's got a new music video coming up tonight, as if anyone REALLY cares. The title match takes place right after this.

We're back with this title match, and as Hogan tries to lock up Muraco gets a right hand in, then another, and he rakes the champion's back. Forearm to the back, and more back raking by the challenger. Right hands in the corner on Hogan, then a kick to the gut, make it three. Hogan to the other corner, but he reverses, and catches Muraco with a back body drop.

Hogan then rakes Muraco's back, and Jesse says that's not right, because Muraco had his nails cut. Heenan gets on the apron, and Hulk knocks him off, then another back rake and a right hand knocks Muraco down. Kick to the gut in the corner, then he sends Muraco to the other and clotheslines the #1 contender.

Atomic drop sends Muraco over the top, and Hulk's out after him. Right hand on Muraco as Heenan wants the ref to do something. Hogan throws Muraco into the post, then he breaks the count and throws Muraco back in. The two exchange right hands, but Hogan wins it and a big right hand gets a two count on Muraco.

Headbutt by Hogan, Muraco off the ropes, and he gets caught in a bear hug. Muraco breaks with a headbutt, then kicks a field goal in the champion's ribs. Short legdrop by Muraco, and another kick to the ribs, then a knee drop across the throat for two.

Another kick to the ribs by Muraco, then the "Asian Spike," or a thumb drop, to the throat. Kneelift by Muraco, then he bows to Heenan and vice versa. Muraco scoops the champion up and hits another knee lift, then another kick to the ribs and an elbow drop. Muraco spreads Hogan's legs and headbutts the champion in the "lower abdomen area," then an eye rake.

Russian leg sweep by Muraco, then he gets on the middle rope and hits the Asian spike. Kick to the face of Muraco, then another by the #1 contender, but its only good for two, and Hulkster's Hulking up. Muraco's right hands do nothing, so Hogan nails three of his own, then to the other corner with a clothesline. A chop, the big foot, and the legdrop, but Heenan stomps Hogan on the cover for the DQ.

Hogan goes after Heenan and gets him in a neck hang, so King Kong Bundy with a double axe handle from behind. Then what would set the stage for many more after this, its time for the first ever Hogan injury from an attack storyline. Muraco holds Hogan in the corner, and Bundy hits an avalanche, dumps the referee, and hits another. Enough? NO WAY! A third one, and the champion's unconscious.

Muraco pulls Hogan to the middle of the ring, puts his hands on his chest, and its the big splash by Bundy. Heenan then tells Muraco to turn him over, and Bundy hits a splash on Hogan's back. The British Bulldogs and Pedro Morales come in, and the heels leave. *1/2 on the match normally, but I up it to ** for the psychology. Notice that Muraco deliberately kicks Hogan in the ribs about ten times to set that up, and he works on the ribs during much of the bout. That is great heel psychology.

Okay, now for the Hogan injury stuff, as a doctor is in the ring checking Hogan's eyes and his heartbeat. A stretcher is brought down to ringside, and we go to a commercial break. We return, and Hogan has a neck brace on and they put him on a stretcher, taking him out. Now a WWF recap of the post-match attack by the heels.

Now Mean Gene is in the back, and they are putting Hogan into an ambulance. Gorilla can be seen and heard yelling "GIVE US A BREAK!" as he shoves Bundy away from the ambulance, then gets inside it himself. Mean Gene is going to try to follow the champion to the hospital and provide us another update. Vince is almost in tears, selling it perfectly.

--WWF Tag Team Title Match BRITISH BULLDOGS w/CAPT. LOU ALBANO vs. DREAM TEAM w/JOHNNY VALIANT-- Dream Team comes out to "We Are The Champions" to piss the crowd off, doing a nice job of it. Vince says Mean Gene is on his way to the hospital, but thanks to the wonders of technology, its WWF PreTape, and Mean Gene interviewing the champions. Valentine calls the dogs a circus act.

The deal here is that, well, here's a WWF Flashback for you from Superstars in January 1986, a non-title victory for the British Bulldogs. Davey Boy Smith starts for the dogs, Greg Valentine for the champions. Lock up, and Valentine with a shove, then Smith counters with one of his own. Valentine's kick is blocked by Smith, who hits an atomic drop, Dynamite with a punch, and Smith with a headbutt for two.

Valentine tries to bail, but Smith catches him on the apron, and a vertical suplex for two. Tag to Dynamite Kid, and a double clothesline and DK headbutt get two. Valentine begs in the corner, so Dynamite lets him get up, and Valentine with a right hand. Brutus Beefcake in, but Dynamite is on the attack. Kid with right hands, then a kneelift and a headbutt, and Smith is in.

Wristlock slam by Smith, then another, and Beefcake's in trouble. Off the ropes, and Smith with a back elbow, but it knocks Bruti into Valentine, who's tagged in. Smith hits him with a right hand, then a Gorilla press slam for 2.88888888, drawing "OOOOHHH!s" from the crowd, as Dynamite is tagged in.

The Kid with two knees to the jaw, then he stomps away at "The Hammer." Belly-to-back suplex by Dynamite, then a headbutt, but its only good for two. Dynamite on the middle rope, he hits a knee drop, and tags to Davey Boy. DBS and Valentine exchange American and European forearms, and Valentine staggers DBS, so a DBS dropkick stuns Valentine, but a small package only gets two.

DBS tags Dynamite, who gets a vicious chop, but Hammer with an inverted atomic drop lets him tag Beefcake, who pounds away at Dynamite. While this is going on, Valiant and Albano get into it on the outside, and all four wrestlers go outside to split it up, which lets us take a break.

Back, and its Dynamite vs. Beefcake. Dynamite gets Bruti in the Bulldog corner, tags DBS, and a missile dropkick off the top, then a splash, but Beefcake out at 2.8888889. Right hand by DBS, but Beefcake with a right hand, elbow, and a stomp tags Valentine, and they hit a double stomp. Valentine locks the figure four on DBS, but Dynamite with a legdrop stops that and DBS tags him in.

Dynamite with two headbutts, then right hands to Valentine in the corner. Valentine with some of his own, then an elbow, which McMahon calls a brain buster, finds the mark. Valentine on the middle rope, and hits an elbow drop, but Dynamite is out at two. Valentine with a shoulder breaker on DK, but only for two.

Dynamite eats Beefcake's foot, and Brutus gets tagged in, and gets knees in the corner. Snap mare, then the jumping stomp by "Beefer" for two. Valentine tagged in, and a forearm smash on DK, but he's out at two. Valentine sets up the figure four, but DK kicks out into the corner. Valentine goes up top, but DK slams him off and a dropkick by Dynamite off the top only gets two.

Clothesline by DK only gets two, and this is a great match. The snap suplex of absolute awesomeness gets two, as Beefcake breaks it up. So DBS is in, and he dropkicks Brutus outside. Valentine with a right hand on DK, side headlock, and a double shoulderblock knock both men down. However, when Valentine falls, his leg droops over Dynamite, who's shoulders are down, and Valentine gets a three count.

Great match, ***3/4, as it would set the stage for an equally good WrestleMania II matchup when the Bulldogs would finally get the belts. Mean Gene from the hospital, and Hogan's music video is next! OH GREAT!

Back, and Mean Gene is at the hospital, and he will update us if he gets any information. Well, that did a lot. Now McMahon introduces Hogan's music video, "Real American." It starts with JFK with the ask what you can do for your country bit, then Hogan childhood pics, and various clips of him wrestling to the music. As typical WWF prodcution, it is very well done. Oh, and Hogan plays a red, white and blue guitar in front of a blue screen, which sends him to about 20 national monuments.

--JUNKYARD DOG vs. ADRIAN ADONIS w/JIMMY HART-- It's WWF PreTape, and Adonis and Hart with Mean Gene. Adonis is already into his ten years too early gay character. Back to "live" action, and JYD is in the ring, and when we come back, its "The Dog Fight." I don't think this stuff up folks, but at least their liners aren't as bad as the NWA's.

We're back in Phoenix, and Adonis makes fun of JYD, so he uses the 10 scarfs around Adonis' neck to fling him from one side of the ring to the other, then he headbutts Adonis, who tries to fall over the top and instead manages to get tied up in the ropes, so a JYD right hand knocks him free.

JYD slingshot brings Adonis back in, and he rakes his eyes. Adonis off the ropes, and a JYD clothesline gets 2.666777. JYD with a bellringer on Adonis, but Adrian with a low blow, and two punches, then a slap gets the advantage. Irish whip, but JYD reverses, and Adonis goes over the top in the corner to the floor, where Jimmy Hart conceals him. So, JYD headbutts Adonis, and the crowd's noise proves that JYD was the #2 babyface at this time.

Jimmy combs Adonis' hair on the outside, so JYD brings him back in. Hart tries to hang on to him, so he ends up in the ring too. Headbutt to Adonis, then JYD sends Jimmy into Adonis, and both go over the top to the floor. Back with more of the Main Event momentarily.

We are back and Adonis is back inside. JYD right hand gets 2.88888887, as Adonis gets his foot on the rope. JYD sets up for a headbutt, but Hart trips JYD, then Adonis gets Hebner tied up in a corner.

While this happens, Hart actually ties JYD up with a scarf on the bottom rope. Adonis then chokes away at JYD, then when Hebner stops that, Hart gets a shot in. Double axe handle from behind by Adonis, and as he chokes JYD, Hebner uses Adonis hair to stop it. Flying knee drop by Adonis, as JYD has gotten loose. Adonis covers, but it only gets two.

Adonis picks the JYD up for a piledriver, but when JYD kicks his feet foreward, he knocks the ref down. Adonis calls Hart up, and he holds the megaphone up, but JYD throws Adonis into the megaphone, and JYD gets a three count. *1/4, as JYD beats on Hart until an Adonis double axe handle knocks JYD to the floor. Adonis has a crying fit after hearing the verdict.

WWF Replay, as we see two different angles of Hart and Adonis going over the top, and now we go to the hospital to Mean Gene. Gene talks to the doc, and he says Hulk has hurt his neck and his ribs, and he will have x-rays taken, as we go to break.

Welcome back, and we get a WWF Recap of the T-Piper-Orton incident earlier on in the night, and another WWF Recap, this one of the Bundy-Hogan incident. Vince says Hulk had a quote from the hospital apparently, and then we go to break. We're back, and remember May 3, or in two weeks, will be the next SNME recap.

Very important SNME in storyline purposes, with the T-Piper boxing match, Hogan-Bundy cage match, and the tag team title match with two refs all set up at WrestleMania after this one. A terrific Bulldogs-Dream Team match, but besides that, very little wrestling that should excite you. So, you have one of the best SNME matches ever, and important storylines, so you get **1/4 for Saturday Night's Main Event #5, from March 1986.
