PNW #4 Page #2

Also in July of that year, Ventura met up with NWA Champ, Terry Funk and although Funk was the winner, Ventura gave a good account of himself. On 6/4/77 Lonnie Mayne & Les Thornton beat Buddy Rose & Jesse Ventura when Rose accidentally injured Ventura's leg, putting him out of action. One month later when Ventura returned he was wildly cheered as he attacked Buddy Rose and their feud was on. Ventura became more articulate as time went on.

Rose seemed to finish the feud in August of 76 as he beat Ventura and Ventura seemed to disappear. However in early 78 Ventura returned as a full fledged baby face and continued his feud with Rose, who was now teaming with Ed Wiskwoski. Ventura teamed with Jerry Oates and they briefly won the tag titles before losing the belts to another one of Ventura's enemies, Bull Ramos & The Iron Sheik.

Jesse Ventura was one of the many national stars who got their early training in the NW.

NEXT MONTH:

Who was the greatest team in the NW?  Many come to mind including The Royal Kangaroos, Buddy Rose and Ed Wiskwoski, Dutch Savage and Jimmy Snuka, Lonnie Mayne and Tony Borne, the Von Steiger Brothers, and many more.  Who will be deemed the best tag team?
