- Erik Kamber

Kevin Sullivan returned to CWF in 1982 as a face but wrestlers such as Steve Keirn said to be leery of him.  He was not the same Kevin Sullivan that they remembered.  Mike Graham remained friends with Sullivan until his eventual heel turn and teaming with Jake Roberts.

When Roberts left CWF in early 1983, Maniac Mark Lewin was brought in and known to all as The Purple Haze.  I was always a fan of those wrestlers whose gimmick was that of a wild man.  The Sheik, Abdullah the Butcher and The Purple Haze (Lewin) were my favorites.  If you were a young, naive fan, Lewin could strike terror in your soul.  He never spoke when he was with Kevin Sullivan.  He just screamed, grunted his grunt (youuuuuuu) and would roll his eyes up in his head.  He was quite convincing as the uncontrollable wild man.

One Saturday on CWF TV, Sullivan and The Purple Haze displayed savagery at its finest.  They decimated Mike Graham and Dusty Rhodes inside of ten minutes.  The blood flowed freely as Graham and Rhodes suffered at the hands of this "demonic" duo.

Now, to set the stage, Mike Graham had appeared earlier in the show after being out for a while with a shoulder injury.  Mike discussed his surgery and recovery with Gordon Solie at ringside.  I do not recall if Mike said the injury was because of Kevin Sullivan or not.  That escapes me right now.

Kevin Sullivan had just finished a squash on TV and came to the podium with The Purple Haze in tow.  Gordon Solie and Buddy Colt are seated at their usual spots as Kevin Sullivan begins his rant.  "Eddie Graham is the man upstairs.  And isn't it cute that all of a sudden the crown prince (Mike Graham) shows up today after he has had an injury.  All of a sudden, the King (Eddie Graham) has said to the crown prince and to Dusty Rhodes, rid my kingdom of Sullivan and Haze.  Where is the old man now?  Can't you do your biddings for yourself Eddie Graham?"  Keep in mind The Purple Haze is standing behind Sullivan the whole time and his mannerisms add to Sullivan's rant.  At the end of Sullivan's verbal barrage on Eddie Graham when Sullivan asks why can't Eddie do his biddings for himself, The Purple Haze spits on the ground in disgust.  His actions intensified Kevin Sullivan's remarks.

Mike Graham approaches the podium at the end of the verbal attack on his father and the TV crowd is in a near frenzy.  Words are exchanged between the two but the crowd noise drowns it out.  The Haze starts with his familiar barking at Graham.  Youuuuu, Youuuu and picks up a stool and pounds it on the podium.  What is evident is that Graham has challenged Sullivan and it is accepted as Sullivan charges Graham.

"Whoa, Graham catching Kevin Sullivan" exclaims Gordon Sole, “as he walks into some hard right hands.”   Sullivan rolls into the ring and Mike follows him in and body slams him right away and slaps on the figure four.  Immediately, The Purple Haze storms the ring and attacks Graham.  "It looks like Graham is gonna have his hands full right here Gordon" remarks Buddy Colt.  Gordon continues the play by play.  "A series of chops (to Mike's head) here by the Haze and Graham is down with the two men on top of him.  And Graham has a bad laceration.  And it is uh Haze and Kevin Sullivan and their beating Mike Graham into submission.  Wait a second (the crowd noise picks up again) the American Dream Dusty Rhodes just charged the ring.  (Rhodes hits Sullivan but as his back is turned after that, the Haze chops him twice and drives him out of the ring.)  And its Rhodes being driven outside by Purple Haze."

The Purple Haze follows Dusty outside the ring and throws Dusty head first through the wooden retaining wall.  Gordon Solie's reaction is priceless.  "Brother!  He just drove Rhodes straight through the retaining wall."  Inside the ring Kevin Sullivan delivers two shoulder breakers to Mike Graham as Buddy Colt calls the action inside the ring making sure everyone is aware that Sullivan is trying to re-injure Mike's shoulder.

Haze re-enters the ring and stretches out Mike Graham as Sullivan prepares to leap from the top rope onto Mike's shoulder.  "And Rhodes is out, trying gamely to get to his feet" shouts Gordon.  Rhodes crawls into the ring and lies on top of Graham and takes the brunt of the top rope jump for Mike.  Graham rolls out of the ring and Sullivan and Haze turn their attention to Dusty Rhodes.  Dusty was in street clothes and as Kevin tears at his coat and shirt the Purple Haze continues to chop away at a very bloody Dusty Rhodes.  Rhodes just lays there being dragged around by the two heels as they beat him unmercifully.
