I'm sitting here in my hotel room in Chicago and I happened to glance down at the day planner, I have a reminder on today's page that says "deadline approaching for USWA memories at Kayfabe Memories" and I thought "Ooooo, I gotta get working on that."  So gather the kiddies around the computer, break out a frosty six pack of your favorite beverage of choice (for you ring veterans, that would mean beer) and let Big Biz take you on a trip down memory lane.

I saved a special story for this month. Many of the USWA boys will remember this. It was summer of 1994, and in Memphis we all had a deal at the Best Western by the Memphis airport. It was a really nice hotel, nicer than most. Well, after being in hotels for the last five years my views on that have changed a little; they all look the same now. But I remember it being nicer than most. The cool thing about our deal was a hotel that should be going for $75/$100 a night just happened to have a general manager who loved wrestling.

So all the boys knew about the USWA rate; if you talked to the manager and told him you were with "the talent" you got in on the deal. OK, are you ready for this? $15 a night! That is almost unheard of. Needless to say, almost all the boys stayed there. Hell, some of them practically lived there. Now the unique thing about that hotel was we had to put up with the planes. For those of you who don't know, Memphis International happens to be a Fed Ex hub, which means many Fed Ex planes come rolling in during the evening and head back out in the early morning but for $15 a night we were willing to put up with a lot.

I still remember a worker, Reggie B. Fine, who used to stroll through the kitchen late at night and would have them make him sandwiches. It was kind of like a second home to most of us. Until that fateful "event," and I would love to give you the guys name who bombed this deal for us but I know he is still working in the business and I just can't do it.

For those of you in the business and for many fans, just by hearing about his gimmick - you'll probably figure out who I'm talking about. And in all fairness, I should say that I don't know for sure if he messed the deal up, but it was a curious thing that after this event we no longer had our deal of $15 a night.

So we'll just call him, "Worker A" for now. Worker A had a gimmick of being a sorcerer or magician-type guy. I can picture his long robe with stars and a ½ moon on it and this big pointy silver hat. I can hardly stop laughing just thinking about this whole situation. It's funny now, but at the time none of the boys found it amusing, including Worker A who I'm sure will still remember this incident.  More...
