Houston #23 Page #2

-The Rhodes v Zybzsko match would be a sign of things to come, as just as the match never really materialized, so also their much ballyhooed 1988 feud never really got off the ground.  (Has anyone yet seen the incriminating photos that Baby Doll had??)

-One Man Gang would return to Florida, and for a while, continue to feud with Rhodes.  Eventually, Gang would have a brief run as a babyface and would actually team with Rhodes as a member of the “Family.”

-Magnum T.A. had teamed with Dusty (as Dusty was the Midnight Rider) in Florida, and would later join him in the Mid-Atlantic area again.  The two would form a potent tag team, known as America’s Team.

-Just a few months after this match, Hacksaw Duggan would come to Florida as a heel to face Rhodes.  He and Rhodes would brawl all over Florida, and the feud would climax after Duggan won a First Blood Match, setting up a Loser Leaves Town match that would send Duggan back to Mid-South (where he would resume his status as one of the most popular wrestlers in the area).

Finally, Gang and Duggan would hook up in a feud that started 2 ˝ years later during the UWF title tournament in Houston as Duggan was preparing to face Terry Gordy in the tournament finals.  The feud never had a real conclusion, as Duggan left for the WWF in January 1987.

Fast Forward:

Dusty Rhodes would not return much to Houston after 1983 until 1986 with co-promoted cards with the UWF, and after Jim Crockett Promotions had bought the UWF.  Duggan would be one of the greatest faces ever to hit Houston.  One Man Gang would later face Rhodes and Duggan in the WWF, however, he would face Rhodes under the “Akeem” gimmick he had for the majority of his WWF career.

Next Month:
